Haddhunmathi Maabaidhoo Council is an institution established under the "Maldivian Administrative Divisions Decentralization Act." This act was passed by the People's Majlis to fulfill the requirements of Chapter Eight of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, which mandates that administrative divisions be governed through a decentralized system, and outlines the principles of administration, the necessary institutions, and their respective powers and responsibilities. The Act was ratified by the President on Monday, 17 May 2010, in accordance with Article 92 of the Constitution.
